After leaving the Cook Islands, I arrived in New Zealand and spent two months there visiting almost every nook and cranny.
Perhaps the most incredible place I visited in New Zealand was White Island, a giant volcanic crater that sits about 20 miles offshore.
The tour was certainly fascinating, but after spending an hour on the island, I could taste a sulfuric crust building up on my lips.
While it's an amazing place, and totally unlike anyplace I've ever seen, I don't think I'd want to be a tour guide here.
